Evan was very excited to have George stay with him and his family for a week. Evan was eager to show George some of the great sustainable practices that he and his family currently use but learn more from George at the same time. With a family of six people to educate George was in for a hard week.

 In the Laundry

3George got straight into his role as Sustainability Officer by taking Evan and his Mum to the laundry. George knew that there would be basket loads of washing to do every day with six people.  George was a little disappointed to find that the family did not have a nice big new state of the art washing machine with the best water rating on it.  However George was pleased to find out that Evan’s family used the grey water left over from the washing to water their garden. Water was not wasted by going down the drain. George suggested that energy could also be conserved by using the cold function on the washing machine.

George agrees when hot water is needed for cleaning or showering, a solar boosted water system is more environmentally friendly in creating the electricity to heat the water.

Cleaning the House

When most of the family had gone to school and work it was time for George and Evan to tackle the cleaning of the house. On a recent trip to the supermarket with George he pointed out the green environmentally friendly cleaners. These cleaners don’t use chemicals that are unnecessary and unsafe for our environment

Evan also helped George clean the windows. Evan used an Enjo cleaning mit for the cleaning. No chemicals were used at all, just water. Better for the environment and for Evan’s health.

Fun and Games

7It wasn’t all boring cleaning and washing for George and Evan. They even found some time to play. George thought it would be great to teach Evan the idea of eco-friendly travel and fuel alternatives.  By riding his bike around the local area with his family instead of using the car, a lot of carbon emissions are reduced. It also helps to keep the family fit and healthy.

George and Evan’s Family had a busy week together teaching and learning sustainable ways and activities. Evan’s Family was sad to farewell George the Sustainability Officer.  They were consoled in the fact that George has a big job in visiting many other families to inform them of how to live more sustainable.
